What Is The "Hobie Way of Life?"
"The Hobie Way" summarizes how fleet members and their families feel about a sailboat that gives them an irresistible sense of freedom, camaraderie, excitement and fun. Hobie Catting means instant friendships wherever Hobie sailors meet with other Hobie sailors. Participating in a fleet picnic, points regatta or overnight flotilla puts you with people who have the same fun-loving interests.

What Is A Fleet?
It's a group of diversified individuals who have one thing in common, a love of sailing the Hobie Way. Let's start at the top of the organization.

There are over 100 regions or divisions world wide. Each region is comprised of several weather-similar areas. Many fleets make up a division or region. Every fleet plans a variety of fun events focused on sailing and racing during the sailing season, along with other events to satisfy a variety of member interests throughout the rest of the year.
Yearly Division- or Region-sponsored racing events bring together members of all fleets for competitions and fun outings.
National and International racing events allow any Hobie Cat sailor an opportunity to sail and compete with friends from around the world.

Who Joins A Hobie Cat Fleet?
Fleet members are singles, married and unmarried couples, parents and children. Their ages range from teens to seniors, and they may or may not own a Hobie Cat. Fleet members can take time to learn the ways of Hobie Catting before purchasing their own new or used boats and begin from scratch on their own twin hulls.

What do Fleets Do?
Fleets involve you with others who share the "Hobie Way of Life." Fleet events might include:

  • Learn-to-sail seminars for all levels of skill from beginner youths through advanced racers.
  • Entertaining events for those with a fun-inspired and competitive spirit.
  • Getaway camp-sail vacations.
  • Boat and house swaps with Hobie friends from distant locations for unique and economical vacations.
  • Endurance sails of 40, 50 and 100 miles with camping and barbecues each night at prearranged locations.
  • Family fun days, complete with costumes and surprise events for every member of the family including non-sailing fun for land lovers.
  • Newsletters that keep members informed of fleet friends' accomplishments, boats and equipment to swap or sell, sailing and tuning tips, seasonal outings such as iceboat sailing and broom ball, sailing seminars as well as holiday and ski get-aways, and other information to keep you enjoying your Hobie Cat and the many friendships you've made.

What Else Do Fleets Do?
Fleets work with authorities to assure access remains available for Hobie sailing (which requires public launching and beach access) and parking for catamarans, trailers and tow vehicles. Active membership in a fleet helps keep the public sensitive to the needs of small, non-power driven boat owners and sailors everywhere. Hobie fleet members take pride in and set examples of conscientious environmentalism by sharing the wind, water and good times and leaving the site undisturbed.

What's The Bottom Line?
Fleet membership and all events are carefully planned to be as affordable as possible. Campsite, motel/hotel and launch site information concerning locations, facilities and rates is researched and provided for every event. Most Hobie Cat dealers offer discounts on replacement parts to fleet members and often provide a parts truck on site for major Hobie events.

Where Are Fleets Located?
There are more than 550 Hobie Cat fleets around the world. There's an active Hobie fleet close to you and not far from any vacation destination of your choice. Contact the fleet member whose name appears on the fold-out panel of this brochure. Most fleets offer new member incentives to introduce newcomers to the world of Hobie Cat sailing, another of the many ways fleets share the "Hobie Way of Life."
