Hobie Class enews
You many suddenly notice a change in how you are receiving this message or whether you get it all. I just reloaded all the email addresses based on the 2005 membership. We were getting a lot of bounces due to bad email addresses. If you don't wish to receive this or wish to receive it at another address you can edit your email address or unsubscribe/subscribe by going here.
Hobie 16 North American Championships
Please consider registering now if you are attending. Early registration is enormously helpful for our organizing staff. These events are very complicated to run and it helps greatly to know how many teams are coming. The event web site is now online here. Stay tuned for additional updates. Details will be posted shortly regarding motorhome camping on-site. An event message board is also now available.
The class annual meeting will also be held during the 16 North American's. For details or to suggest agenda items contact Ed Muns.
Hobie 16 World Championships
The HCA has been allocated 17 pre-qualified spots at the Hobie 16 World Championships in South Africa on 31 October to 4 November 2005. These spots are available to the top 17 finishers at the 2005 Hobie 16 North American Championships in Ventura. If a pre-qualified team declines their spot, then finisher 18 will be offered the spot, etc. Anyone who cannot attend Ventura and beleives they should have a pre-qualified spot in South Africa should send a petition to Ed Muns, HCA Chair, such that he receives it (email, fax, mail) prior to 19 July 2005. Petitions will be duly considered during the final allocation of the 17 HCA pre-qualified spots. The 17 spots will be decided and announced at the awards dinner in Ventura and any petitioner not present will be notified immediately.
The deadline for naming the North American teams occurs BEFORE the Ventura event, but we received an extension from the IHCA until the awards banquet. Therefore, it is necessary for anyone competing in the Open to be prepared to commit to filling a spot in South Africa if they are offered one at the awards banquet. Teams will indicate their decision at the on-site registration and will be informed of their spot confirmation at the awards banquet, however you MUST register prior to the July 24, 2005 deadline to ensure you get a slot and avoid the 25% late fee.
Bottom line is you need to do your homework now and decide if you are interested in attending this event as they won't be any time to do it after the North American's. Complete event details are at www.hobieworlds.com.
From US Sailing WHY INSURE MY ONE-DESIGN BOAT?
If you do not insure your boat, and lend it to a friend and the friend gets hurt or causes injury to another person, you are exposing yourself, your family and your assets to a possible liability lawsuit. US SAILING's One-Design Insurance Program affords peace of mind that you, or anyone borrowing your boat, are covered for property damage and personal injury. You will be protected up to the amount of insurance you buy. All One-Design claims are handled by a marine surveyor and, if litigation is required, it will be handled under maritime law where it belongs, not in civil court where home and auto claims are resolved. Hobie Tiger Worlds Championships recently concluded and details on full event coverage are below. Due to the timing of events, the world championships did double duty as the 2005 Tiger North American Championships. The plan was the highest finishing North American team would be named the North American Champions for 2005. As luck would have it the winner and new world champions are also North Americans so Enrique and Jorge collect both awards, congratulations.
